Designing a Swimming Pool

Concrete Pool Construction Guide

Concrete pools are a preferable choice for most homeowners since they are durable and easy to maintain. Besides, they will improve the appeal of your landscape and the value of the property. So, what does it take to build a concrete pool? Below are a few tips.

Site Inspection and Pool Design

Where would you want to build the pool? Swimming pools should not be constructed in sloppy areas. Otherwise, the pool could flood during rainy weather. Besides, the pool should not be too close to your neighbour's property. Check the building's blueprints to know whether there are underground gas, water and electric lines that could pose a danger when digging the swimming pool.

The swimming pool should be large enough to accommodate the whole family. You may need a baby pool if you have small kids. The primary advantage of concrete pools is that they can be built to all kinds of shapes. You could consider an infinity pool if your home is close to natural features such as the beach, lake, or beautiful horizon.

Permits

In most Australian states, you require a permit from the local council to build a pool. Further, check zoning and owners association bylaws to know if there are restrictions on the size and location of the pool. For instance, if the area has controlled development, you should know which pool designs are acceptable.

Excavation Works

Hire a pool contractor to excavate soil for your in-ground pool. The contractor must observe safety during excavation works. For instance, they should conduct a site visit to know what type of excavator to use. Backhoe loaders would be an ideal choice when working in constricted areas. Besides, they should be aware of hazards such as low lying branches and electrical cables.

Pool Construction

Once excavation works are complete, the contractor will lay metal beams to provide structural support for your pool. Insist on quality materials that will not crack or bend once you pour the concrete. The contractor will then conduct plumbing and electrical works in the pool. Concrete pumps are an effective and convenient way to pour concrete into the pool. Concrete takes around 28 days to cure. Next, the contractor will waterproof the pool and surface it using tiles or dyed plaster. Give the plaster a few days to cure before running water into the swimming pool.

It is vital that you work with an experienced pool contractor. Contact some of his previous customers to know whether they can handle the project. They should also provide discounts, guarantees, and maintenance services.
